Let your presence be the present.

“The best gift to give is the gift of presence.  Be available to listen.” This advice from Surviving the Pink Ribbon doesn’t only apply to supporting those with breast cancer.  I believe presence is the best gift, period.  Giving of your limited time to fully “be” with another can be anything from comforting to life-changing.  And, yet, it’s so easy to get into routines and habits, hurrying past others and letting our interactions hover on the surface (“Hi, how are you?”  “Fine.”).  And sometimes the person you need to “be” with is yourself — taking time to give to yourself.  This needs to happen before you can truly give to others.
